Based purely on bang for the buck, the 2014 Audi TT is a hard sell. Of course, there's the TT's exterior styling, which still cuts a very distinctive shape through the roads of Vermont. But there's more to the TT than just beauty.

Thanks to its strong and efficient turbocharged engine, slick automated dual-clutch manual transmission and standard all-wheel drive, it's an appealing car to drive, especially in places such as New England with have unpredictable weather patterns. Feature-rich content and an impeccably built and presented interior are other appealing attributes.

TTS Roadster Competition Package

The TT comes as a coupe with two vestigial rear seats and a strictly two-seat TT convertible. Buyers may supplement the dramatic exterior style with available two-tone color schemes and Audi's "S line" appearance and performance upgrades. Finally, for those who lust for more power, there are also higher-performance TTS which is also available with a limited release interior trim package known as "Audi Exclusive."

Premium TT models get a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 211 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Paired with the standard dual-clutch transmission and quattro all-wheel drive, the TT is quick, hitting 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds.

The Audi TTS gets an upgraded version of the same engine, rated at 265 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This power increase gets the TTS to 60 mph in as little as 4.9 seconds. TTS models also get an upgraded Haldex version of the quattro AWD system, enhancing the already unmatched driving experience of twisting through the roads of the north east.

Audi TTS flexing muscle

The TT and TTS offer rather green sporty driving: all versions rate 22 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined according to the EPA.

Choosing between TT or TTS Coupe and Roadster models is easy, too: the difference is in the drop-top, not the handling, with both forms of the TT showing nimble and eager responses, its low-slung shape providing grip and cornering stability. The Audi TT is an energetic and agile coupe and roadster, in all option choices, that will satisfy even the most scrutinizing track weekend enthusiasts.
