Known for making the road a "more intelligent place"1, the Audi A6 did so well on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash test, it was named a "Top Safety Pick" for 2012.

On the roof strength portion of the test, the IIHS reported that the 2012 Audi A6 "withstood a force equal to 4.9 times the car's weight…"2 This means the Audi A6 Sedan scored point-nine points higher than what the IIHS requires for a "good" rating,three-point-four points higher than federal safety mandates - one-point-one points better than the acclaimed 2011 Audi A6.

However, it takes more than a "good" roof strength test for a vehicles to qualify as a "Top Safety Pick." The 2012 Audi A6 also received "good" ratings in the front-, side-, rear- and rollover crash tests.
