The redesign of the 2012 Audi A5 and 2012 Audi S5 is complete, with orders starting in September and deliveries shortly thereafter in December. Audi South Burlington can safely say the Bavarian automaker hasn't just met our expectations. They've exceeded them.
For the 2012 A5, Audi aimed to make the vehicle more fuel efficient with zero compromise to performance. They succeeded by introducing two new engines and enhancing existing engines with technologies such as start-stop and hydraulic steering. The new Audi A5 can be fitted with drivers' choice of transmission (a seven-speed S-tronic twin clutch transmission or an eight-speed multitronic CVC) and available quattro all-wheel drive.
Perhaps the most noticeable differences between the imminent 2012 Audi A5 and 2011 Audi A5, however, is improved torque distribution and the addition of a new drive select adaptive dynamics setting: "Efficiency". Different from the three pre-existing settings - "Comfort", "Auto", and "Dynamic" - the "Efficiency" setting minimizes power consumptions by making subtle adjustments to power-steering resistance, throttle response, and automatic transmission shift points.
The 2012 Audi S5 gets an engine update as well. It will get, or should we say, settle for, a V6 engine rather than the previous models year's aggressive V8. We do, however, think even the most discerning Audi drivers will be so distracted by the vehicle's substantial fuel-economy gains and new quattro drive with crown-gear center differential that they'll hardly notice the insignificant decrease in power.
Both the 2012 Audi A5 and Audi S5 ranges see up to a 22-percent reduction in carbon emissions, re-sculpted bodies, all-new infotainment features, and enhancements to the chassis. Inside, they'll also gain new steering wheels, Audi drive select system, multifunction steering wheel controls, and heated and ventilated seats.
